Plague of disease hangs like a curse over the refugee camps, as malnutrition makes easy prey of all. Tuberculosis and malaria are epidemic, but measles and diarrhea are the biggest killers in the camps. The camps have been described as "time bombs of communicable disease." Execrable water supplies, such as the animal-fouled, mosquito-ridden pool that refugees scratched from a riverbed near Saba'ad camp explain why.
