Ming Dynasty Canal town, once collected a fourth of taxes along Grand Canal as it was here that boats had to be removed from the water and transferred to 2nd canal, so it was easy to collect. As part of the tax, each boat had to take 20 to 50 bricks to Beijing. Pics of Grand Canal now used as village garbage dump. Local resident tells us he used to swim here 25 years ago.
