Workers at the U Ba Nyein lacquer shop in Bagan. Here, lacquerware is prepared as it has been for centuries. A varnish made of tree sap is applied to a basin or pot constructed of bamboo, wood and horse hair. Needles are used to etch elaborate designs into the vessel's side.
